Average temperatures in Nepal vary greatly. Considering humidity, temperatures feel hot for about half of the year and otherwise nice with a fair chance of precipitation about half of the year. The area is less temperate than some — in the 39th percentile for pleasant weather — compared to tourist destinations worldwide. Weeks with ideal weather are listed above. If you’re looking for the very warmest time to visit Nepal, the hottest months are June, May, and then July. See average monthly temperatures below. The warmest time of year is generally early June where highs are regularly around 94°F (34.4°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 71.4°F (21.9°C) at night.

Precipitation (Rain or Snow)

If dry weather is what you’re after, the months with the lowest chance of significant precipitation in Nepal are November, December, and then January. Note that we define “significant precipitation” as .1 inches or more in this section. The lowest chance of rain or snow occurs around mid to late November. For example, on the week of November 19th there are no days of precipitation on average. By contrast, it’s most likely to rain or snow in mid August with an average of 4 days of significant precipitation the week of August 13th.

Humidity and Wind

Nepal has some very humid months, with other moderately humid months on the other side of the year. The least humid month is April (43.9% relative humidity), and the most humid month is August (78%).

Wind in Nepal is usually extremely calm. The windiest month is May, followed by April and June. May’s average wind speed of around 3.4 knots (3.9 MPH or 6.3 KPH) is considered “light air.” Maximum sustained winds (the highest speed for the day lasting more than a few moments) are at their highest in late May where average top sustained speeds reach 7.5 knots, which is considered a gentle breeze.

Spring (March through May)

Humidity and temperatures combine to make this season feel warm. Highs range from 92.6°F (33.7°C) and 70.7°F (21.5°C) with warmer temperatures in the later months. Rain is somewhat common with 4 to 6 days of significant precipitation per month. Spring is the busiest for tourism, which makes it a good time for those looking for things to do.

Summer (June through August)

The middle-year months have very comfortable weather with high temperatures that are quite warm. These months see the most precipitation with 10 to 15 days of precipitation per month. June – August is the second busiest season for tourism in Nepal, so lodging and other accommodations may cost slightly more.

Fall (September through November)

Fall daily highs range from 87.4°F (30.8°C) and 74.1°F (23.4°C), which will feel very nice given the humidity and wind. It rains or snows a normal amount: 0 to 8 days per month. Tourism is fairly slow during these months due to the weather, so hotels may be lower priced.

Winter (December through February)

Weather is somewhat cool this time of year in Nepal to be enjoyable for warm weather travelers. The average high during this season is between 74.3°F (23.5°C) and 65.2°F (18.4°C). On average, it rains or snows a smalll amount: 1 to 2 times per month. These times of year are the slowest with tourists.
