Precipitation (Rain or Snow)

If dry weather is what you’re after, the months with the lowest chance of significant precipitation in North Thailand are February, January, and then November. Note that we define “significant precipitation” as .1 inches or more in this section. The lowest chance of rain or snow occurs around mid January. North Thailand has some very humid months, with other comfortably humid months. The least humid month is April (54.4% relative humidity), and the most humid month is August (75.9%).

Wind in North Thailand is usually extremely calm. The windiest month is April, followed by May and July. April’s average wind speed of around 0.5 knots (0.5 MPH or 0.8 KPH) is considered “very calm.” Maximum sustained winds (the highest speed for the day lasting more than a few moments) are at their highest in late July where average top sustained speeds reach 4 knots, which is considered a light breeze.

Spring (March through May)

Humidity and temperatures combine to make this season feel very warm. Highs range from 101.2°F (38.4°C) and 96.1°F (35.6°C) with warmer temperatures in the later months. Rain is somewhat common with 2 to 11 days of significant precipitation per month. Spring is the slowest for tourism, which makes it a good time for those looking for deals.

Summer (June through August)

The middle-year months have very comfortable weather with high temperatures that are quite warm. These months see the most precipitation with 11 to 14 days of precipitation per month. June – August is fairly slow season for tourism in North Thailand, so lodging and other accommodations may cost slightly less.

Fall (September through November)

Fall daily highs range from 93.4°F (34.1°C) and 90.8°F (32.7°C), which will feel very nice given the humidity and wind. It rains or snows a significant amount: 1 to 12 days per month. Tourism is the second busiest during these months due to the weather, so hotels may be slightly higher priced.

Winter (December through February)

Weather is perfect this time of year in North Thailand to be enjoyable for warm weather travelers. The average high during this season is between 96.3°F (35.7°C) and 87.2°F (30.7°C). On average, it rains or snows a very small amount: 0 to 1 times per month. These times of year are the busiest with tourists.
